On July 6, 2020, the Italian composer Ennio Morricone died in Rome at the age of 91. He died in hospital having fractured his femur in a fall some days before.

Our Tribute to Ennio Morricone salutes a towering giant of music and film with a concert program of his legendary film scores. Morricone’s career spanned 70-plus years and more than 500 movies. You can probably count on one hand the number of composers who had as much influence on film music as Ennio Morricone.

With his death, the entire music world lost one of the most influential, beloved, and listened-to film composers. Ranging from the signature epic scores he wrote for Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Westerns in the ’60s to the films of Fellini, Pasolini, Giuseppe Tornatore and many other European and American directors – including one of his greatest admirers, Quentin Tarantino, Morricone perfected the aural art of film music.
